Life is but a stage, and memories are the performance.
This week, the Birkbeck Film Society presentsa poignant tale of love, loss, and the pursuit of meaning in Millennium Actress, (2001) a visually stunning masterpiece by Satoshi Kon (known for Perfect Blue and Paprika). Blurring the lines between cinema and reality, the film follows a retired actress as she recounts her extraordinary life to a pair of documentarians. Through her memories, we traverse decades of Japanese history, seamlessly interwoven with the roles she played and the life she lived.
