Join the Birkbeck Film Society and the Birkbeck Japan Society as we collaborate to bring a special screening of the Studio Ghibli masterpiece The Tale of the Princess Kaguya (2013)!
Directed by the late Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) the film follows a bamboo cutter who, whilst out making a living for himself and his wife, discovers a living nymph that transforms into a beautiful young woman. With a budget of $49.3 million it is the most expensive Japanese film ever made and is widely considered not only to be one of the best Ghibli films of all time but also one of the best films of the 2010s.
Our screening of The Tale of the Princess Kaguya will begin shortly after 6.30pm on Friday the 16th of January in MAL 532 (Room 32 on the 5th level of the Birkbeck Main Building on Malet Street), following special activities from both the Film Society and the Japan Society that will be commencing at 6pm in the same room. Tickets are free and both current students and alumni are welcome!
