Join the Birkbeck Film Society on Friday the 24th of October as we mark Black History Month with a very special screening of Franco Rosso's Babylon (1980) preceded by a screening of Ngozi Onwurah's seminal short film White Men Are Cracking Up (1994).
White Men Are Cracking Up (20 minutes): Written by the celebrated playwright Bonnie Greer, White Men Are Cracking Up explores the fetishisation of Black women as a manifestation of white male insecurity through the lens of a white detective who is obsessed with a woman he perceives as a 'black street goddess'.
Babylon (1 hour 35 minutes): Set against the backdrop of Thatcherian Britain, Babylon follows Rastafarian DJ Blue as he navigates his way around the reality of living in 80s Brixton.
Our screening will start just after 6.30pm with our presentation of White Men Are Cracking Up before we immediately proceed with our screening of Babylon. Tickets free and both current students and alumni are welcome!
