Cassavetes. A name synonymous with independent cinema. A name that immmediately brings the idea of raw character driven storytelling to the forefront. A name not only synonymous with a filmmaker but a style of filmmaking itself that has reverberated amongst multiple generations of filmmakers and marked itself as a strong influence on the likes of Scorsese, Allen and Altman.
On the 26th of September the Birkbeck Film Society is delighted to invite you to a screening of one of Cassavetes's earliest films, Faces. Starring Cassavetes regulars Gena Rowlands (also his longtime wife) and Seymour Cassel, this tragedy follows themes of ageing and alienation through the lens of a midde aged couple that drifts away from each other.
Our screening of this film will begin just after 6.30pm in Room B35 (room 35 on the basement floor) of the Birkbeck Main Building on Malet Street! Tickets are free, and current students and alumni are welcome!
