Revolving around the life of a recovering drug addict who tries to re-establish his life over the space of one day, Joachim Trier's Oslo, August 31st (2011) is a gritty drama that is loosely based on the novel Will O' the Wisp by Pierre Drieu La Rochelle. It also forms the second part of the filmmaker's Oslo Trilogy alongside Reprise (2006) and the Academy Award® nominated The Worst Person in the World (2021), all three of which also star Oslo, August 31st's lead Anders Danielsen Lie and were co-written by Eskil Vogt.
Joiin the Birkbeck Film Society as we screen Trier's film on the 31st of August at 2pm in Room 532 (room 32 on the 5th floor) in the Birkbeck Main Building on Malet Street! Tickets are free, and current students and alumni are welcome!
