After surviving a Nazi concentration camp, a woman who has had her face disfigured returns home to her husband who does not recognise her due to her facial reconstruction. Can love survive the deadliest of wounds?
The sixth collaboration between director Christian Petzold (a senior figure in the Berlin School film movement) and esteemed actress Nina Hoss, Phoenix is loosely based on the French crime novel The Return from the Ashes (by Hubert Monteilhet). Widely considered to be one of the best films of the 2010s and aplomb with Hitchcock references, we're delighted to be presenting a delightful treat of a film for Birkbeck's community of movie-lovers.
Our screening of Phoenix (2014) will take place shortly after 6.30pm on Friday the 22nd of May in MAL B35 (Room 35 on the basement level of the Birkbeck Main Building on Malet Street). Tickets are free and both current students and alumni are welcome.
