In 1975, a tragic incident unfolds in Grosse Point, Michigan with unimaginable consequences for the Lisbon family.
First screening as a part of the Directors' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival in 1999 before going into general release in 2000, The Virgin Suicides is an adaptation of Jeffrey Eugenides's 1993 novel of the same name and marks Sofia Coppola's feature film debut. Starring Kirsten Dunst (who would go on to appear in three more of Coppola's films) and set to an iconic Brit Award® nominated score from the band Air, The Virgin Suicides is a must-watch for fans of 90s American cinema.
Join the Birkbeck Film Society as we screen Coppola's cult classic on the 8th of August 2025 at 6.30pm in Room 532 (room 32 on the 5th floor) in the Birkbeck Main Building on Malet Street! Tickets are free, and current students and alumni are welcome!
