Join us for a hands-on screenwriting taster session inspired by an original film score — no experience necessary. Discover how sound shapes story, then see if filmmaking's for you.
Ever wondered how composers and screenwriters work together to build a scene? In this taster session, you'll explore how an original film score — composed by BAFTA-connected composer Mark Doggett — can shape pacing, atmosphere, and character on the page.
Through a series of guided writing exercises, you'll:
- Translate rhythm and mood into scene and character
- Learn how professional screenwriters use sound cues and pacing
- Read your work aloud with the score playing underneath, table-read style
No filmmaking or screenwriting experience required — just curiosity. Whether you're a first-year or a final-year student, this session is a great introduction to what the Birkbeck Short Filmmaking Society does year-round: hands-on, collaborative filmmaking from script to screen.
